Tancock and GBR team say facilities are ‘fantastic’

The GBR swim team have been settling into their two week camp at the BEST Centre and for most of the team, they have already spent time here in recent months, so they feel immediately as though this is a home from home. Michael Scott is the performance director and was insturmental in setting up the relationship between British Swimming and the BEST Centre. “Mallorca is an ideal place to do a camp at this time of year – the weather is great, the facility is fantastic, the hotel is an easy walking distance and it is a very good venue for a training camp.
The main target this year is the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships will be very, very tough but we are going to go in there and give 100 per-cent. The ultimate goal is London and each year it is about progressing.”

Liam Tancock is one of the elite group at the Loughborough ITC that has regularly taken advantage of the short flight to the sun. “I have been to Mallorca a couple of times, I came on a British Swimming camp last year just to test out the facilities and see what we think of them and it is a really great place.

“Three weeks ago I was out here doing a ‘get back into it camp’ and it is such a great area, not just a great pool, and we did lots of different things running, cycling in a nice environment and now I am back out here with the whole squad which is always really nice.

“Back at the trials I did what I needed to do there which was qualify for the Europeans and the Commonwealths and I was pleased with that and now it is all back to training and getting focused for the Europeans in the summer and the Commonwealths a couple of months later.”
